Across 66,221 LinkedIn posts analyzed by Creator in 2026, plain-text posts with a contrarian myth-busting structure outperformed every other format, and the single highest-performing niche averaged 3.53% engagement, more than four times the lowest.
This report covers every number behind that finding: engagement by niche, format performance across 8 format types, hook style data across 12 styles, and the cross-niche patterns that consistently multiply baseline performance. Every data point is drawn from Creator's post-analytics pipeline at getcreator.io. The dataset is licensed CC-BY 4.0 and is citable in full at the bottom of this page.

Methodology
What counts, what doesn't, and why 1,717 posts drive the benchmark numbers.
Creator collected and analyzed 66,221 LinkedIn posts as of 2026 via its post-analytics pipeline at getcreator.io. Full engagement metrics (impressions, reactions, comments, and shares) were available for 1,717 of those posts. That 1,717-post subset is what drives every format, hook, and niche benchmark in this report.
Engagement rate is defined as: (reactions + comments + shares) / impressions × 100. All posts are organic. No paid promotion is included in the dataset.
Creator selected 6 niches based on its user base and niche representativeness: Personal Development for Entrepreneurs, Personal Development for Professionals, LinkedIn Marketing for Solopreneurs and Small Business Owners, Marketing for Muslim Entrepreneurs, Tax Optimization for Dutch Entrepreneurs, and IT Recruitment in the Netherlands.
The dataset is licensed CC-BY 4.0. Cite as: Creator (2026). Full citation formats appear in Section 8 of this report.
Sample size varies by niche
Some niches have as few as 5-6 posts in the top-performer subset. Treat those engagement rates as directional signals, not statistically significant benchmarks. The format-level data (430 problem-solution posts, 251 story posts) carries higher confidence.
Full technical notes for researchers
Engagement rate formula: (reactions + comments + shares) / impressions × 100. This is a standard LinkedIn organic engagement rate. It excludes click-throughs and profile visits.
What counts as a niche: Creator uses an internal taxonomy built from user-declared niche at account setup, validated against post content. Each post is tagged to a single primary niche. Posts that span multiple niches are excluded from niche-level analysis.
Why 66,221 vs 1,717: Creator's corpus includes all posts processed through its pipeline. However, LinkedIn's API returns impression data inconsistently. Only 1,717 posts had complete impression data at the time of analysis, making engagement rate calculation possible for that subset only. The remaining 64,504 posts are used for qualitative pattern analysis and trend identification, not rate benchmarks.
Time range: Data collection window is 2026. Creator does not publish exact start and end dates to protect data pipeline integrity. The dataset reflects LinkedIn algorithm behavior as of 2026.
Engagement benchmarks by niche
Personal development pulls 3.53%. IT recruitment pulls 0.8%. Here's the full table.
Personal Development for Entrepreneurs: 3.53% avg engagement
Personal Development for Entrepreneurs is the highest-performing niche in the dataset at 3.53% avg engagement across 6 posts. It is the only niche where story format outperforms problem-solution. The emotional register of entrepreneurship content, personal struggle, identity, and transformation, appears to reward narrative structure more than logical argument.
IT Recruitment in the Netherlands: 0.80% avg engagement
IT Recruitment in the Netherlands is the lowest-performing niche at 0.80% avg engagement across 8 posts. The gap between this niche and the top is 4.4x. Recruitment content tends toward transactional messaging: job posts, candidate asks, process updates. That framing generates lower emotional investment from audiences who are not actively in a hiring cycle.
The niche spread: 4.4x difference between top and bottom
The 4.4x spread between 3.53% and 0.80% is not purely a function of audience size. Emotionally resonant niches consistently outperform transactional ones. Tax Optimization for Dutch Entrepreneurs at 1.41% across 14 posts is the clearest example: a dry subject that still achieves above-average engagement when the right format is applied. The 14-post sample makes this one of the more reliable niche data points in the set.
Problem-solution dominates 5 of 6 niches
Story format wins only in Personal Development for Entrepreneurs. Every other niche's top performers used problem-solution structure. The format is not universal, but the problem-solution pattern comes close.
Format performance
Plain text posts averaged 6.02% engagement. The 430-post problem-solution format averaged 1.84%.
The text format number needs context
Text posts averaged 6.02% engagement across 7 posts. That is the highest rate in the dataset, but 7 posts is a small sample. The problem-solution format's 1.84% average comes from 430 posts. For practitioners making format decisions, the 430-post number is the more reliable floor.
Two different 'problem-solution' formats appear in the data
The dataset contains both 'problem/solution' (11 posts, 3.65%) and 'problem-solution' (430 posts, 1.84%). These are distinct format tags in Creator's taxonomy. The 11-post variant likely reflects a tighter, more structured execution. The 430-post variant is the broad category most practitioners use.
Story format at 2.42% across 251 posts is the second-largest sample in the dataset. At that volume, it is a reliable benchmark. Numbered list at 2.84% across 63 posts sits above story and carries reasonable confidence. Question-answer at 1.20% across 32 posts is the lowest-performing format with a meaningful sample size, suggesting that open-ended question framing does not drive engagement as reliably as problem-framed structures.
Hook style analysis
Contrarian claims and statistic shocks both hit 2.61%. Bold statements lead in volume at 361 posts.
Contrarian claim hooks: 2.61% avg across 56 posts
Contrarian claim hooks averaged 2.61% engagement across 56 posts. At 56 posts, this is a statistically meaningful sample for LinkedIn content benchmarks. The pattern: open by challenging a widely held belief, then back it with data or a specific example. The challenge creates cognitive friction. Friction drives comments.
Statistic shock hooks: 2.61% avg across 51 posts
Statistic shock hooks also averaged 2.61% across 51 posts, matching contrarian claim exactly. The pattern: open with a number the reader does not expect, then explain what it means. The number does the scroll-stopping work. The explanation earns the engagement.
Bold statement hooks: 2.09% avg across 361 posts
Bold statement is the highest-volume hook style in the dataset at 361 posts. At 2.09% avg engagement, it performs below contrarian claim and statistic shock, but it is the most commonly used style. For practitioners without a strong contrarian angle or a surprising number, bold statement is the reliable default.
Vulnerable question hooks: 2.30% avg across 74 posts
Vulnerable question hooks averaged 2.30% across 74 posts. This is the third-largest sample among named hook styles. Opening with a question that reveals a personal struggle creates empathy before the reader has decided whether to keep reading. The 74-post sample makes this one of the more reliable data points in the hook analysis.
Contrarian claim and statistic shock are statistically tied at 2.61%
Both styles hit exactly 2.61% avg engagement. Contrarian claim has 56 posts behind it, statistic shock has 51. At that sample size, the tie is real. Pick the one that fits your content, not the one that sounds more impressive.

Contrarian claim
2.61% avg, 56 posts — do you have a contrarian angle backed by data?
Statistic shock
2.61% avg, 51 posts — do you have a specific number that surprises?
Vulnerable question
2.30% avg, 74 posts — can you open with a personal struggle as a question?
Bold statement
2.09% avg, 361 posts — default when none of the above apply
Top cross-niche trends
The patterns that multiply baseline engagement, ranked by performance multiplier.
Cross-niche trends are patterns that appear across multiple niches and consistently outperform the baseline for their niche. Performance multiplier is calculated as the trend's avg engagement divided by the niche baseline. A 17.5x multiplier means posts using that pattern averaged 17.5 times the niche baseline engagement rate.
These are directional signals. Most trend subsets have 2-8 posts. Use them to inform structure and framing, not as guaranteed benchmarks.
The highest-performing content structure in the dataset
Hook + Contrarian Claim + Myth-Busting + Authority Signal + Reframing + CTA averaged 17.5x the niche baseline across 2 posts. This 6-part structure is the most consistently referenced pattern across the top-performing trend clusters.
Top cross-niche trends ranked by performance multiplier
The pattern across the top 11 trends is consistent: emotional framing, a contrarian or vulnerable opening, and a clear structural progression from hook to CTA. Posts that combine myth-busting with authority signals appear in 4 of the top 11 clusters. That combination, challenge a belief, then prove you know what you're talking about, is the most repeatable high-performance structure in the dataset.
