Click-Through Rate (CTR)
Click-through rate is the percentage of people who saw a post or link and clicked it. a direct measure of how compelling the call to action is.
CTR = clicks ÷ impressions × 100. On LinkedIn, CTR matters most on posts that contain a call to action (link in comments, lead-magnet opt-in, profile click, newsletter subscribe). A great post with a 5% engagement rate but a 0.1% click-through rate is performing well at attention but failing at action.
LinkedIn CTRs are generally lower than email CTRs because the user is in passive scroll mode. Benchmarks: 0.5–1% is typical for organic posts with link-in-comments, 1–3% is good, above 4% is exceptional. Sponsored content tends to land between 0.4% and 0.8% on average.
Improving CTR is mostly about three levers: matching the click destination to the post promise (no bait-and-switch), reducing friction at the destination (one form, not five), and cleaner mid-post CTAs ("save this for later" + "the full breakdown is in the comments" outperforms a link buried in the body).
