ICP (Ideal Customer Profile)

An ICP is a written description of the exact customer who would benefit most from a product. and is most likely to buy, stay, and refer.

An ICP is a one-page description of the customer that should be the center of every marketing and sales decision. A real ICP includes firmographics (industry, company size, revenue, geography), buyer-persona data (role, seniority, jobs to be done), and behavioral signals (what tools they use, what content they consume, what triggers a purchase).

The discipline most B2B teams skip: ICPs should be written from the customers you've actually closed and retained. Surveying every "potential" customer creates a blob; reverse-engineering from your top 10 paying accounts creates a sharpened spear. Write it from data, not aspiration.

A strong ICP doubles as a content brief and a disqualification filter. If a lead doesn't match the ICP on at least three dimensions, the right move is usually to pass. not to slot them into the funnel and dilute conversion math. The mistake most B2B founders make is trying to serve everyone; the move that grows revenue is shrinking the audience and going deeper.
