Listicle

A listicle is a LinkedIn post structured entirely as a numbered or bulleted list - delivering multiple standalone points under a single thematic headline.

Listicles are a reliable LinkedIn format because they set a clear expectation in the hook ("7 things...", "5 mistakes...") and deliver on it with predictable, scannable structure. Readers know what they're getting, how long it will take, and can stop after any individual point without losing the thread.

The format has a specific sweet spot on LinkedIn: 5–10 items performs well; fewer than 4 feels thin; more than 12 tests reader patience. Each item should be one concrete, specific point - not a paragraph, not a vague category. The stronger the individual items, the higher the save rate.

The distinction from a carousel: a listicle is entirely text, delivered in a single post. A carousel delivers list items as individual slides. Both serve the list format, but carousels reward visual design effort with higher dwell time, while listicles trade on speed-of-scan. Which to use depends on production capacity and whether the list items benefit from visual separation.
