Story Post
A story post is a LinkedIn content format structured as a narrative arc - setup, conflict, turning point, resolution - used to communicate a business or personal lesson through lived experience.
Story posts are among the highest-engagement formats on LinkedIn when executed well, because narrative is the most natural structure for human attention. The reader follows a character (usually the author) through a situation, wants to know what happens next, and receives a transferable lesson at the end.
The four-part structure that consistently works: (1) Setup - who you were, what the situation was, what you believed; (2) Conflict - what went wrong, what challenge appeared, what assumption broke; (3) Turning point - the decision, the insight, or the moment that changed the trajectory; (4) Resolution + lesson - what changed, and what the reader can take away. The lesson is not mandatory as the final line, but the resolution should make it obvious.
The mistake most people make with story posts: using abstract language ("I learned so much from this experience") instead of specific, sensory detail ("My close rate dropped from 1-in-4 to 1-in-9 in a single month, and I didn't know why"). Specificity creates credibility; vagueness creates skepticism.
