Text Post

A text post is a LinkedIn post with no attached image, video, or document. just words. Often the highest-reach format for established personal brands.

Text posts are the simplest LinkedIn format: plain text with no attachment. They're also one of the most effective for creators with an established audience, because they force the hook and the writing to carry all the weight.

The algorithm doesn't inherently disadvantage text posts. Observational data suggests LinkedIn may actually give text posts a slight reach boost over image posts because text is platform-native. Carousels and video require more production; text posts don't. which is also why the best-written ones stand out more.

Where text posts outperform: long-form personal narratives, hot takes, contrarian arguments, and numbered lists. Where they underperform: tutorials that need visual steps, comparisons that need tables, and anything complex enough that readers want to save and refer back. For those, carousels or documents outperform.
