Thought Leader Ads
Thought Leader Ads are a LinkedIn advertising format that lets companies boost organic posts from specific employee profiles - amplifying personal brand content with paid reach while maintaining the personal post format.
Introduced by LinkedIn in 2023, Thought Leader Ads allow a company to run paid promotion on a specific individual's organic post from their personal account. The ad appears in the feed as a personal post with the individual's name and photo - not as a company page post - which preserves the authenticity and engagement rate advantages of personal content while extending reach beyond organic.
The strategic use case: a founder has a high-performing organic post about a relevant topic, and the company wants to amplify it to a specific audience segment (e.g., target by job title, industry, or geography). The ad looks like a regular personal post in the feed, which typically drives 3–5× higher engagement than standard company page display ads.
The setup: the company LinkedIn admin creates the ad campaign and assigns it to the individual's post. The individual must approve the boosting. The budget model is standard LinkedIn auction-based CPM or CPC. Thought Leader Ads are most effective when the organic post has already proven engagement - boosting a proven high-performer rather than paying to amplify an untested post.
