Thought Leadership

Thought leadership is original point-of-view content that stakes a specific claim about a domain. distinct from educational or how-to content.

Thought leadership is content that advances a specific position: a claim about where an industry is going, why conventional wisdom is wrong, or what the correct answer to a hard question is. It's distinct from educational content (which teaches) and from personal narrative (which shares experience). Thought leadership takes a stand.

The value of thought leadership: it builds authority faster than any other content type. Audiences can get tutorials from thousands of creators; they can only get your specific, defensible opinions from you. Recurring thought leadership posts. even ones people disagree with. build loyal audiences because they give people something to think and argue about.

The mistake: using "thought leadership" as a synonym for any long LinkedIn post. Most "thought leadership" content is just rephrased advice with no original claim. Real thought leadership is uncommon because it requires actual opinions. A useful test: would a competitor be willing to say the exact same thing? If yes, it's not thought leadership.
