TL;DR - what makes Mathias's LinkedIn work

Mathias builds a loyal audience by sharing raw founder stories—failures, health crises, business pivots—mixed with tactical product updates from his fintech startup COHERTA. His most distinctive move is opening with vulnerable personal stakes (legal battles, emergency surgery) that reframe into lessons about resilience and decision-making, which generates 95 avg engagement on story openings versus 11 on contrarian claims.

Voice & tone

Mathias writes like a founder thinking out loud in a coffee shop with a peer. He's direct without being polished, mixing Danish colloquialisms with English product talk. He admits confusion ('Jeg var tosset'), celebrates small wins ('super fedt'), and treats readers as equals in the startup struggle. The tone is conversational and self-aware, never corporate.

Signature phrases

  • “super fedt”

Hook

The spaced-out text 'T H I K E N D E S F O R R E T :' is visually jarring and forces a pause. It signals something serious is coming. The reader has to decode it, which increases cognitive engagement before they even read the first sentence.

Structure

Opens with cryptic hook, then moves into a personal narrative (5-year legal battle). Transitions into a reflection on Danish justice system. Then pivots to the Yourpay story: what was built, what was lost, why he's proud despite failure. Closes with incomplete sentence ('Jeg mistede ikke Yourpay til dårlig drift eller uansvarlig forret…'), leaving readers wanting more context.

Stylistic moves
  • Incomplete final sentence - creates curiosity and drives comments asking for the full story
  • Institutional reflection - shifts from personal grievance to societal pride ('Noget vi godt kan være stolte af som samfund')
  • Specific numbers - '+65.000 danske erhvervsdrivende', '+250 mio. kroner' - grounds the story in real scale
  • Emotional honesty - 'Jeg mistede mit hjertebarn' - uses parental language to show depth of loss
Close / CTA

No explicit CTA. The post ends mid-thought, which is the CTA itself. Readers comment to ask what happened next or to offer support. This drives the 38 comments (15% of 246 engagement).

Steal this

End a vulnerable post with an incomplete thought or unanswered question to trigger comments from readers seeking closure or wanting to show solidarity.

Hook

The hook combines gratitude (glæden = joy) with urgency (hasteindlagt = emergency admission). Readers expect a complaint about healthcare but get praise instead, which is a micro-reversal.

Structure

Story arc: setup (mild stomach pain, stress assumption) → crisis (organ failure, sepsis) → rescue (friend arrives, paramedics, surgery) → reflection (processing what happened, physical recovery). Uses short sentences during the crisis moment to mimic panic. Longer sentences during reflection to show processing.

Stylistic moves
  • Casual diagnosis - 'det må være stress' - shows how founders rationalize away warning signs
  • Emoji as emotional marker - 😳 signals shock at the sepsis diagnosis
Close / CTA

Post ends with physical recovery detail ('10 sting i mave') and implicit reflection ('Jeg har brugt de sidste par dage på at forstå hvad der egentligt lige skete'). No ask. Readers comment with their own health stories or to express relief that he survived.

Steal this

Use sensory details and short sentences during crisis moments to make readers feel the urgency, then shift to longer reflection sentences to show you've processed it. This creates emotional rhythm that drives comments.

Hook

Opens with a metric-driven statement: 'Fuld fokus - 16 demoer booket ind i dag, 3 trials påbegyndt 🚀'. The number is specific and recent (today). The emoji signals momentum. The phrase 'Fuld fokus' (full focus) frames this as a deliberate, concentrated effort, not luck.

Structure

Hook with metrics → context about new team member (Tim, 48 hours of listening) → value proposition (5 specific benefits of COHERTA's lead data) → social proof (named team members tagged). Uses checkmarks to make the value prop scannable. Ends with a forward-looking statement ('jeg kommer til at poste meget mere om Cohertas rejse til 🦄').

Stylistic moves
  • Metric-first framing - leads with traction, not mission or vision
  • Team member spotlight - naming Tim and his 48-hour immersion adds credibility and shows onboarding rigor
  • Benefit-focused bullets - each line answers 'what problem does this solve?' (CVR number, decision-maker name, phone number, review count)
  • Emoji as visual break - 🦄 signals unicorn ambition without saying it
Close / CTA

Not a hard ask to sign up or book a demo. Instead, it's a promise of future content. Drives follows and saves.

Steal this

When announcing product traction, lead with the metric, explain the team context, then list specific benefits as scannable bullets. End with a content promise rather than a sales ask to keep readers subscribed.

What drives their engagement

Drives comments

Mathias drives comments by ending posts with incomplete thoughts, unanswered questions, or emotional vulnerability that invites readers to respond with their own stories or to ask for clarification. His top post (246 eng) ends mid-sentence. His hospital post (171 eng) ends with a physical detail that prompts relief and solidarity comments.

Drives reposts

Reposts are rare (0.5% rate). This suggests Mathias's audience is reading for personal connection and tactical insight, not for broad inspiration or motivational quotes. His posts are too specific to his journey to feel universally shareable.

Content pillars

Founder Vulnerability & Resilience

35%

Raw recounts of setbacks (5-year legal battle, startup failure, emergency surgery) that extract a lesson about persistence or perspective. Positions Mathias as human, not just a builder.

COHERTA Product Milestones & Traction

30%

Contrarian Tech Bets & Decision-Making

Hook patterns

Story Opening with Specific Timeframe

[Specific past event] + [emotional or physical consequence] + [present reflection]

→ Immediate specificity (weekend, hospital, night) makes the reader feel present in a real moment, triggering curiosity about what happens next. Avg 95 engagement.

Bold Metric Announcement

[Specific number] + [action/milestone] + [emoji] + [context about team or timeline]

→ Numbers are concrete and verifiable. Naming the team member (Tim) adds credibility. Emoji signals momentum. Readers see real traction, not vague claims.

Contrarian Stance with Self-Awareness

[Crowd consensus] + [I did the opposite] + [admission of doubt] + [early results]

→ Admitting 'Jeg var tosset' (I was crazy) disarms defensiveness. Showing early wins ('20-30% stigning') proves the bet was right. Generates debate in comments.

Vulnerable Question Hook

[Conditional question] + [context about a person or event] + [implicit invitation to learn]

→ Opens with a question that most readers answer 'no' to, creating curiosity. Then pivots to a relationship story. Low engagement (10 avg) but drives comments from people wanting to know more.

Cryptic or Spaced-Out Text Hook

[Unusual text formatting or spacing] + [Danish phrase or title] + [emotional or legal weight]

“T H I K E N D E S F O R R E T :”

→ Unusual formatting stops the scroll. Readers pause to decode it. The legal/serious subject matter (court ruling) signals weight. Highest engagement post (246 eng).

What works

  • Story openings with specific timeframes and emotional stakes generate 95 avg engagement (2 posts). The specificity (weekend, night, hospital) makes readers feel present.
  • Metric-first announcements with named team members drive traction signals. Post 3 opens with '16 demoer booket ind i dag, 3 trials påbegyndt 🚀 Tim startede hos os i mandags'. Readers see real numbers and real people, which builds credibility.
  • Incomplete endings that leave questions unanswered trigger comment-seeking behavior.
  • Contrarian tech bets framed with self-awareness ('Jeg var tosset') generate debate. Admitting doubt before showing results makes the claim feel earned, not arrogant.
  • Sensory details during crisis moments (paramedics 'hev og sled i mig', 10 stitches in stomach) make abstract struggles concrete and relatable. This drives empathy comments.
  • Tagging specific people (Tim Jørgensen, Valdemar Bilecka, Simone Chimera) in product updates creates accountability and gives those people a reason to engage and share.

Steal this for your own LinkedIn

  • Start your next post with a specific date, time, or location that grounds the reader in a real moment. Instead of 'I had a tough week,' write 'Lørdag aften, 22:30 - I got a text from my co-founder.' Specificity stops the scroll.
  • End a vulnerable post with an incomplete sentence or unanswered question. Don't wrap it up neatly. Let readers comment to ask what happened next or to offer support. This is how Mathias gets 38 comments on a personal story.
  • When announcing product wins, lead with the metric (16 demos, 3 trials), then name the person responsible, then list the specific benefits as bullets. Skip the mission statement. Readers want proof, not philosophy.
  • Use short, punchy sentences during moments of crisis or urgency, then shift to longer, reflective sentences when processing what happened. This creates emotional rhythm and makes readers feel the arc.
  • Admit doubt or seeming foolishness before revealing the contrarian bet paid off. Say 'Jeg var tosset' or 'I was crazy to bet against the crowd' before showing the 20-30% growth. This disarms skepticism and makes the win feel earned.
  • Post 5.7 times per week on a consistent schedule (Mathias posts daily). Consistency builds algorithmic favor and trains your audience to expect you. Sporadic posting kills momentum.

avg 33 engagements per post

Mathias balances 35% vulnerability (founder struggles, health crises, legal battles) with 30% product traction (metrics, demos, trials) and 35% strategic insight (contrarian bets, team building). This mix works because his audience is founders and solopreneurs who need both emotional permission to fail and tactical proof that his approach works.
