Warm DM

A warm DM is a LinkedIn direct message sent after the prospect has already had some form of engagement with the sender - they've commented on a post, downloaded a lead magnet, or otherwise signaled interest.

Warm DMs convert at dramatically higher rates than cold DMs - typically 35–55% reply rates versus 6–12% for cold - because the engagement creates a shared context. The prospect already knows the sender exists, has shown interest in the content, and is more receptive to a direct message because there's a natural reason to be in contact.

The most powerful trigger for a warm DM: someone who commented on your post. They've demonstrated interest, taken a visible public action, and given you a specific topic to reference. A DM that opens with "loved your comment on [post] - specifically the point about X" is extremely hard to ignore.

The timing principle for warm DMs: send within 24 hours of the trigger event. Engagement signals have a half-life - a warm DM sent 5 days after a comment loses most of the warmth advantage. The highest-converting warm DMs are sent same-day or next-morning.
