LinkedIn Connection Acceptance Rate by Seniority
Acceptance falls as seniority rises, and so does everything after it. Cold requests to individual contributors and managers are accepted 30% to 48% of the time, while C-level requests land between 15% and 28%. The computed half of this page shows the second penalty: once the connection exists, C-level contacts replied to a first message 31.1% of the time and VPs 29.5%, against 45.4% for managers and 49.0% for consultants.

The warm column matches the 65–80% figure that page publishes for requests sent after the person engaged with your content.

How to run an account when the decision maker is senior
- 1
Connect one level down first
Managers accept more readily and, once connected, replied 45.4% of the time in our data against 29.5% for VPs and directors. Start where the conversation is cheapest.
- 2
Earn the senior request with content
The compiled warm column runs 52% to 68% at C-level, against 15% to 28% cold. Publishing before requesting is the only lever on this page worth more than 30 points.
- 3
Send the senior request with a reason, never a pitch
Personalized C-level requests run 32% to 46% against 15% to 28% cold. One specific sentence about their work roughly doubles acceptance.
- 4
Write the second message before the first
C-level conversations reached three or more replies only 10.0% of the time. A senior contact answers once. Decide now what you will say when they do.
- 5
Measure per level, not in aggregate
A blended acceptance rate hides which level is failing. Split the report by job level and the fix becomes obvious in a week.
Frequently asked questions
Do CEOs accept LinkedIn connection requests?
Some do, and at a lower rate than anyone else. The compiled band for cold C-level requests is 15% to 28%, against 38% to 48% for individual contributors. A personalized request lifts C-level to 32% to 46%, and a request that follows content they already engaged with reaches 52% to 68%.
What is a good connection acceptance rate for executive outreach?
Anything above 30% on cold C-level and VP requests is doing well, and above 45% means the note is genuinely personalized or the prospect already knew your name. Compare against 15% to 30% cold rather than against the 25% to 40% blended B2B average, which is pulled up by junior contacts.
Is it easier to connect with a manager than a director?
Yes, on both steps. Managers sit at 34% to 45% cold acceptance against 26% to 36% for directors, and once connected, managers replied to a first message 45.4% of the time against 29.5% for the VP and director group in our computed data.
Do founders accept connection requests from strangers?
Founders of small companies do more often than large-company executives. The compiled band is 30% to 42% cold for founders under 50 staff, against 18% to 28% for founders of larger companies. Once connected, founders replied 38.5% of the time across 1,488 conversations in our data.
Does a higher acceptance rate mean a better list?
No. Junior contacts accept most and buy least often. Read acceptance next to what happens afterwards: in our data, conversations with consultants and specialists reached three or more replies 19.6% of the time, against 9.5% with VPs and directors. Value the depth column against deal size before ranking a list.
Should I target seniority or job function?
Function first, then the most junior level that owns the problem. Our computed table shows reply rate falling with seniority, so entering at manager level and letting that person carry the case upward costs less than fifteen unanswered requests to their VP.
Methodology
Compiled acceptance ranges are drawn from published outbound benchmarks and reconciled against the approach-level figures on our connection request acceptance benchmarks page. Our system records the conversation rather than the invitation, so no acceptance figure here is presented as measured.
Computed figures were run on 2026-09-09 across the 10,922 LinkedIn conversations in which our side sent the first message, from 17 sending accounts, drawn from 100,861 messages in 14,577 conversations.
Reply rate. Numerator: conversations in which the other person sent at least one message after our opener. Denominator: outbound-initiated conversations at that job level. Reached 3+ replies uses the same denominator with a numerator of three or more messages back.
Job level is a keyword match on the recipient's LinkedIn headline, applied in a fixed order so founder and owner titles are captured before C-level, and C-level before VP and director. 6,661 of the 10,922 conversations carry a headline.
The 2,622 conversations whose headline names no level are excluded from the computed table here and published as their own row on our InMail response rate by seniority page, so nothing is dropped from the site.
Every published row covers at least 16 sending accounts. No conversation, contact, company or message text is exposed.
Compiled ranges reconciled against the approach bands on our own connection request acceptance benchmarks page and published B2B outbound benchmarks. Computed figures from Creator's anonymized LinkedIn DM dataset.
