How Many LinkedIn Followers Before Content Compounds
Inbound usually starts somewhere between 1,000 and 2,500 followers, and compounding shows up above roughly 5,000. Those are compiled ranges. What we can measure is whether content actually improves with tenure, and for the median account it does not: comparing each account's first 30 posts with its most recent 30, the median ratio is 0.83 and only 38.6% of 249 accounts improved.

Each account contributes its own median for that year, and the table reports the median across accounts. An account needs at least 20 posts in the year to appear, so the set of accounts changes between rows. The point of this table is the direction: platform-wide engagement did not fall between 2024 and 2026, so the 0.83 first-to-last ratio above is not explained by a shrinking feed.

Tenure alone does nothing
The median account's most recent 30 posts earn 0.83x what its first 30 earned. Posting for longer is not a strategy on its own.
The accounts that doubled are a real group
42 of 249 accounts at least doubled between their first and most recent 30 posts. Compounding is available, it just is not automatic.
Consistency is the strongest signal we can measure
Accounts posting in 95% or more of their weeks carry a median of 110.5 engagements per post against 13 for accounts posting in under 40% of weeks. That gradient is far wider than anything tenure produces.
Followers are a lagging number
Follower count follows repeated posts on the same topic. Chasing the number directly, through follow-for-follow or off-topic viral posts, buys an audience that does not respond to your actual subject.
Judge on a quarter of medians
One outlier post can carry a quarter's average and hide a declining median. Track the median of every post in the quarter instead.

Is 1,000 followers enough to get leads on LinkedIn?
Yes, if the 1,000 are the right people. A tightly targeted list of 1,000 in one industry produces more conversations than 10,000 mixed followers, because reach is decided by who engages early rather than by raw follower count. Expect 1 to 4 inbound conversations a month in that band.
Why did my LinkedIn engagement drop even though I have more followers now?
It is the common case. The median account in our sample earns 0.83x on its recent posts against its earliest ones despite having grown. Platform-wide engagement did not fall over the same period: the median account median rose from 26.5 in 2024 to 45.0 in 2026. The usual causes are topic drift, a follower base collected from off-topic posts, and a cadence that slipped.
What is the fastest way to make LinkedIn content compound?
Never miss a week, and stay on one topic long enough to be remembered for it. Weekly consistency is the widest gradient in our data, an 8.5x spread in median engagement per post between the least and most consistent accounts, and it is the only lever on this page that is fully in your control.
Methodology
Computed on 2026-09-09 against Creator's live database, using the same within-account method as the benchmark_within_sender RPC.
First-to-last comparison: 249 accounts, each with at least 80 posts spanning at least 180 days. For every account we take the median engagement of its earliest 30 posts and of its most recent 30 posts, then report the distribution of the ratio between them. Median 0.83, 25th percentile 0.51, 75th percentile 1.44.
Earliest 30 means the earliest 30 posts we hold for that account, which is not always the account's genuine first 30. For externally collected accounts the history starts where our collection starts, so read the ratio as recent versus early rather than recent versus the account's origin.
Year table: an account needs at least 20 posts in a year to contribute its median. The set of accounts differs between rows, so the table is included to rule out a platform-wide decline, not to measure year-over-year growth for a fixed cohort.
Follower bands are compiled ranges. The follower_count_at_posting field is 0 on all 68,706 posts in the dataset, so no follower-tier figure on this page is computed, and none is presented as though it were.
