Social Selling

Social selling is the practice of using social platforms (primarily LinkedIn for B2B) to find, engage, and build trust with prospects before any sales conversation takes place.

Social selling replaces interruption-based outbound (cold calls, cold email blasts) with relationship-based pipeline building. Instead of cold-pitching strangers, social sellers spend time visible to their ICP. They publish relevant content, comment thoughtfully on prospects' posts, and only initiate direct conversations after some recognition exists.

The practical mechanics: build a profile that signals expertise, publish 3–5 pieces of content per week on topics your ICP cares about, engage outbound on the content of 20–40 prospects per week (comments, not likes), then DM only those who've already engaged with you back. Done well, this produces 30–50% DM reply rates vs. 5–10% on pure cold outreach.

Social selling is not "posting and hoping". It's a deliberate combination of inbound (content) and outbound (commenting + warm DMs) that compounds over 90+ days. The teams who make it work treat it as a system with metrics: posts per week, comments per week, DMs sent, DMs replied to, calls booked. Without measurement, social selling drifts into vanity activity.
