Average LinkedIn Click-Through Rate (CTR) Benchmarks
Average LinkedIn CTR is 0.8–1.5% on an organic post with the link in the first comment, and 0.4–0.6% on single-image Sponsored Content. The tables below keep organic posts and LinkedIn Ads apart, because the two behave nothing alike.

Average CTR for organic LinkedIn posts
| Post type | Avg CTR |
|---|---|
| Organic post (with link in comments) | 0.8–1.5% |
| Organic post (link in body) | 0.2–0.4% |
| Carousel CTA (last slide) | 0.6–1.2% |
| Lead magnet via DM trigger word | 8–15% |
Lead magnet trigger-word DMs (8–15% CTR) outperform every other format because they replace 'click and read' with 'reply and receive', converting passive scrollers into active responders.
Average CTR for LinkedIn Ads and sponsored content
| Ad format | Avg CTR |
|---|---|
| Sponsored Content (single image) | 0.4–0.6% |
| Sponsored Content (carousel) | 0.5–0.8% |
| Thought Leader Ads | 0.7–1.2% |
| Sponsored Messaging (InMail) | 2–4% |
| Conversation Ads | 3–5% |
Paid CTR sits below organic CTR on every comparable format. Thought Leader Ads close most of the gap because they carry a person's name and face instead of a company page's.
What actually moves CTR on LinkedIn
Link placement: comments > body > none
External links in post bodies get 50–70% less reach than the same post with link in the first comment. The algorithm explicitly down-weights external link posts to keep users on-platform.
Curiosity gap > direct ask
Posts that tease the outcome ('Here's what we found after testing 47 hooks') outperform posts that ask directly ('Click here to learn LinkedIn growth') by 3–5×.
DM trigger words have the highest conversion of any format
Comment a word → bot DMs the link. This format converts at 8–15% because it replaces a click decision with a reply, which has 5–8× lower friction.
Sponsored CTR is half of organic, for a reason
Users scroll past 'Promoted' tags reflexively. Thought Leader Ads (boosting a real person's post via the company ad account) outperform standard sponsored content by 2× because they look organic.
Frequently asked questions
What is the average CTR on LinkedIn?
Average LinkedIn CTR depends entirely on the format. Organic posts with the link in the first comment average 0.8–1.5%. Organic posts with the link in the body average 0.2–0.4%. Single-image Sponsored Content averages 0.4–0.6%, and Thought Leader Ads average 0.7–1.2%. A single site-wide average would blend formats that behave nothing alike, so the tables above keep them separate.
What is a good CTR on LinkedIn?
Good organic CTR on LinkedIn is 0.8–1.5% with the link in the first comment. Sponsored content benchmarks are lower (0.4–0.6%). Lead-magnet DM trigger formats produce the highest engagement (8–15% comment-to-DM conversion), so they're worth treating as their own category.
What is a good CTR for LinkedIn organic posts?
0.8–1.5% is the organic average when the link sits in the first comment, and the top quartile runs 3–5%. Put the same link in the post body and the range falls to 0.2–0.4%, with a top quartile of 0.6–1%. Link placement moves organic CTR further than any other single change.
What is the average CTR for LinkedIn sponsored content?
Single-image Sponsored Content averages 0.4–0.6%, with a top quartile of 1.0–1.5%. Carousel Sponsored Content averages 0.5–0.8%. Thought Leader Ads, which boost a personal profile post through the company ad account, average 0.7–1.2% and reach 2.0–3.5% in the top quartile.
What is the average LinkedIn ads click-through rate?
LinkedIn ads average 0.4–0.6% CTR for Sponsored Content. Carousel ads outperform single-image ads by 30–50%. Thought Leader Ads (boosted personal posts) consistently achieve 0.7–1.2% CTR, closer to organic performance.
What does CTR mean on LinkedIn?
CTR is click-through rate: clicks divided by impressions, times 100. On LinkedIn the term covers two different measurements. On an ad it counts clicks on the ad, reported in Campaign Manager. On an organic post it counts clicks on a link placed in the post or in the first comment. The two are not comparable, which is why the tables above report them separately.
Why is my LinkedIn CTR so low?
Three usual causes: (1) link is in the post body, which triggers an algorithmic distribution penalty; (2) hook doesn't open a curiosity gap, so people don't feel the need to click; (3) the destination has weak match, what the post promises and what the link delivers don't align.
Should I put links in LinkedIn posts?
Not in the post body. LinkedIn's algorithm reduces reach on external-link posts by 50–70%. Always place links in the first comment, or use a DM trigger word format that delivers the link conversationally instead of requiring a click.
How do I improve LinkedIn CTR?
The four biggest changes: (1) move links from body to first comment, (2) write a hook that creates a clear curiosity gap, (3) match the post promise to the destination tightly, (4) test a DM trigger word format for lead magnets, it converts 5–10× better than 'click the link below'.
Methodology
The organic rows are compiled ranges, not a Creator measurement. Creator stores no per-post click counts, so click-through rate cannot be calculated from Creator's dataset. Read these figures as a working range for planning, not as a computed benchmark.
The paid rows report ranges for LinkedIn Campaign Manager ad formats. Sponsored Content CTR is measured on the ad itself. Sponsored Messaging CTR is measured on the message, not on a link inside it, which is why it sits an order of magnitude higher.
The lead magnet trigger-word row is Creator's own working estimate. It is not a Creator measurement, and we have not traced it to a published study. Treat 8-15% as a rough planning figure rather than a benchmark, and do not cite it as one.
Creator's benchmark engine cannot compute click-through rate at all, because the underlying posts carry no click counts. Where it can compute a figure it reports the distribution across accounts with its own sample size, and withholds anything below its floor.
Creator has not published a primary click-through-rate dataset. Every figure on this page is a compiled range. The methodology note above says which ranges come from inside Creator and which do not.
