How to use these benchmarks

  1. 1

    Find your industry baseline

Locate your industry in the table above. This is your benchmark - not the platform average.

  2. 2

Pull 90 days of post data

Export your LinkedIn analytics or use a third-party tool. Calculate your average engagement rate across all post types.

  3. 3

    Compare against your benchmark

If you're below your industry average, the gap is your improvement target. If you're above it, identify which post types are driving performance.

  4. 4

    Segment by post type

Break down your engagement by text, image, carousel, and video. Find your highest-performing format and increase its frequency.

  5. 5

    Test cadence changes

Posting frequency affects aggregate reach. Test 3×/week vs 5×/week for a 4-week period and compare total impressions + engagement rate.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good LinkedIn engagement rate?

A LinkedIn engagement rate above 3% is considered above average across all industries. For B2B niches, 2–4% is typical for organic content. Posts from personal profiles consistently outperform company pages, often by 3–5×. Engagement rate = (reactions + comments + shares) ÷ impressions × 100.

What is the average LinkedIn engagement rate?

The average LinkedIn engagement rate across all industries is approximately 3.0–3.5% for personal posts and 0.5–1.0% for company pages. Personal creator posts in high-engagement niches like coaching, consulting, and recruiting regularly exceed 4–6%.

Why is LinkedIn engagement higher than other platforms?

LinkedIn's feed algorithm heavily rewards early engagement - posts that get reactions and comments within the first 60–90 minutes are shown to a wider audience. The professional context also means readers are more likely to comment thoughtfully rather than just scroll, which drives up comment rates compared to Instagram or Twitter.

How do you calculate LinkedIn engagement rate?

LinkedIn engagement rate = (total engagements ÷ impressions) × 100. Engagements include reactions, comments, reposts, and clicks. Some benchmarks use follower count as the denominator instead of impressions - this produces a different number, so always check which methodology a benchmark is using.

Which LinkedIn post type gets the highest engagement?

Carousel posts (document posts) and text-only posts consistently outperform single-image posts in engagement rate. Carousels average 4.5–5.5% engagement, text-only posts average 3.0–4.0%, and single images average 2.0–2.5%. See our full breakdown at /stats/linkedin-content-performance.

Methodology

Engagement benchmarks are calculated from Creator's anonymized aggregate dataset of 44,000+ LinkedIn posts published by B2B founders, consultants, and agency owners between Q3 2023 and Q1 2025.

Posts are classified by author niche (self-reported at onboarding). Engagement rate uses the LinkedIn-native impression count as the denominator. Data is refreshed quarterly. Outlier posts (engagement rate >25%) are excluded to prevent skew.

Industry averages reflect personal creator accounts only. Company pages are excluded as they consistently perform at 5–8× lower rates and would distort personal brand benchmarks.
