Best posting times by timezone
LinkedIn's algorithm rewards early engagement heavily. Posting when your audience is actively scrolling is the single highest-leverage timing change.
| Timezone | Best window |
|---|---|
| US Eastern (ET) | Tue–Thu, 7–9am |
| US Pacific (PT) | Tue–Thu, 7–9am |
| UK / Ireland | Tue–Thu, 7–9am |

Frequently asked questions
Which LinkedIn post type gets the most reach?
Text-only posts consistently get the widest organic reach on LinkedIn. The algorithm does not need to render additional media, and the feed shows more text before the 'see more' truncation. Carousels (document posts) are close behind and deliver higher engagement rates because readers spend more time swiping through slides.
Do LinkedIn carousels still work in 2025?
Yes. LinkedIn carousel (document) posts remain one of the highest-engagement formats available, averaging 4.5–5.5% engagement rate versus 3.0–4.0% for text-only posts. The format rewards education-style content, step-by-step guides, and data tables. The main downside is production time - carousels take 3–5× longer to create than text posts.
What is the best time to post on LinkedIn?
For most B2B audiences, Tuesday through Thursday between 7–9am local time drives the strongest early engagement. Early engagement is the primary signal LinkedIn's algorithm uses to extend reach, so timing matters significantly. Avoid posting after 3pm Friday or on weekends when your audience is offline.
Do external links hurt LinkedIn reach?
Yes. LinkedIn's algorithm measurably suppresses posts that contain external links in the main body of the post, as this reduces time-on-platform. The workaround most creators use: post without the link, then add it in the first comment and reference 'link in comments' at the end of the post. This recovers 60–80% of the reach penalty.
How long should a LinkedIn post be?
Posts between 900–1,200 characters (roughly 150–200 words) consistently outperform shorter and longer posts in engagement rate. Short posts (under 400 characters) lack the depth to generate comments. Very long posts (1,800+ characters) see reduced completion rates. The exception: high-performing story posts can run 1,500–2,000 characters if the hook is strong enough to drive 'see more' clicks.
Methodology
Post performance data is aggregated from Creator's analysis of 44,000+ LinkedIn posts published between Q3 2023 and Q1 2025. Post type classification uses LinkedIn's native content type metadata. Engagement rate = (reactions + comments + shares) ÷ impressions × 100.
Reach index is expressed as a multiple of text-only post reach (baseline 1.0×), calculated from impression counts normalized by follower count at time of posting. Posting time analysis controls for audience timezone using author location data.
Hook pattern analysis uses a regex-based classifier trained on 200 manually-labeled patterns. Engagement lift is calculated against median performance for posts of the same type and follower band, published in the same 30-day window.
